We are      The Jo Cox Way

We are a group of leisure cyclists committed to making a difference, our cyclists have ranged from age 16 to 76, coming from all backgrounds and all abilities. The Jo Cox Way, now in its 9th year, has grown every year in numbers with some 80 cyclists taking part in JCW 2023. The group is joined by other cyclists along the way, with many wishing to experience the feeling of being part of this extra-special event.

Everyone wears a shirt with the More in Common hashtag – words taken from Jo’s maiden speech at Westminster in which she said: “We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.

The work of Jo Cox and her beliefs that communities are stronger when people work together really had a big impact on us all, so much so that we take part in this annual bike ride from Jo’s Batley & Spen constituency to London to raise money for The Jo Cox Foundation and the More in Common Network volunteer groups across the country.

Cycling is empowering, it gets you active, it gets you fit, it gets you out.

More in Common – Jo’s Legacy

In her maiden speech in parliament Jo Cox MP spoke about having ‘far more in common than that which divides us’ and The Jo Cox Way bike ride is a wonderful example of the ‘More in Common’ ethos.
By bringing together people from all backgrounds through a shared love of cycling and the goal of completing the challenging 5 day ride the sense of togetherness is palpable. Past participants have reflected on the sense of community the bike ride creates and many friendships have been formed since its inception.
It is something Jo herself would have loved and it is a fitting and important part of her powerful legacy.

The Great Get Together is inspired by the late Jo Cox MP, who was murdered on 16th June 2016, and her first speech in Parliament when Jo said: “We have more in common than that which divides us.”The annual celebration which sees thousands of events, large and small, take place across the UK helps unite people, bridge divides, and tackle loneliness, while showing the collective power we have as a community.
